Describing the condition of modern life, the following words come to mind:
hurried, stressful, violent, expensive, unstable, turbulent
-Industrialized countries have advanced in medicine and medical technologies, but the modern health care system in the U.S. is a “bureaucratic nightmare”. Much still needs to be done to get modern health care to impoverished countries.
-Human and civil rights have made great advances in the last 100 years, but discrimination against women, blacks, Hispanics, and gays and lesbians, just to name a few, is still widespread, and legislation is needed to protect and enhance the civil rights of minority groups.
-Terrorism is a real threat to this country. Complacency may be what we should be worried about.
